Ifugao mandates the serving of I-rice in all restaurants, hotels

LAGAWE, Ifugao, May 31 (PIA) - - All owners of restaurants, eateries, canteens, hotels and hospitals in this capital town are mandated to serve National Food Authority’s iron fortified rice (i-rice)-rice in their establishments.

According to Vice-mayor Martin Habawel, Jr. said the Sangguniang Bayan resolution is pursuant to section 6 of Republic Act 8976 mandating the fortification of staple foods base on the standards set by the Department of Health (DOH) through the Bureau of Drugs (BFAD).
Habawel disclosed that NFA has conducted a simultaneous nationwide campaign promoting the regular serving and consumption of iron fortified rice hence there’s a need to support the call.
Meanwhile, NFA Ifugao Officer-In-Charge Antonio Macato lauded the officialdom of Lagawe led by mayor Ceasario Cabbigat for the passage and approval of the resolution.
Macato said that the resolution requiring all restaurants, eateries, canteens, hotels and hospitals to serve i-rice in their establishments would strengthen the promotion of i-rice to all stakeholders in the municipality.
The OIC is also hopeful that other municipalities including the provincial government would also pass a resolution in their respective locality. **(JDP/MBL- PIA CAR, Ifugao)
