Baguio jins qualify selection for Philippine TKD team

BAGUIO CITY – Hard work and training pays off.

This is what the Taekwondo jins of Baguio learned the hard way during a grueling 2-day match of Kyorugi (sparring) and Poomsae (forms) during the 2012 Smart National CPJ Taekwondo Championships held at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium in Metro Manila this month.

From among the hundreds who joined the match-ups, Christian Mark Duntugan, Jessa Tumlayen, Suzzane Glehn Caslangen, Brighty Rio Salazar, Phoebie Kate De Guzman, Keno Anthony Mendoza, Benjamin Keith Sembrano and Iyra Tindoc of Baguio Defenders grabbed their piece of gold in Kyorugi.

Irven Dhale Langaoen, Justin Carl Nacua, Derik Logan Caslangen, Aitana Fias-ilon and Apriel Solimen and Benjamin Daniel Sembrano (Poomsae) gave their all to win silver.

Meantime, Marc Jaime Bayubay, Randolf Gonzales, Troy Nathaniel Cayago, Emma Bayubay, Rencer shane Lavestre, Paola Rose Salazar, Kenneth Apalla and Angelica Joyce Gaw (Poomsae) settled for bronze.

Caslangen, Salazar, Mendoza, Keith Sembrano and Gaw all qualified for selection for the Philippine Team.

They were selected to compete on February 18-19 at the Philippine Taekwondo Association Central Gymnasium against the best of the country for the honors of joining the Taekwondo Philippine Team.

Over-all, the Baguio Defenders brought home 8 golds, 6 silvers and 8 bronzes. ***paul rillorta
