Naga City - The formidable team of Jins from Baguio raked in a modest 13 medal haul from Taekwondo Batang Pinoy National Championships in Naga City, Camarines Sur, December 13.

In the Fin Weight division for boys, Baguio’s Christian Duntugan advanced to semi-finals over Jins from Pasay and Taytay, Rizal and finally beating Mico Castanares of Laguna for the Gold and receiving the 'Best Athlete Award".

Baguio’s Tristan Dale Cayago also reigned in the Fly weight division over Zamboanga and Antipolo to finally cross paths with fellow Baguio Jin Anthony Delizo who settled for silver.

In the Feather Weight division, John Gervin Astrologio proved supremacy over his opponents from Angeles, Naga and Quezon City to add another gold for Baguio.

“Our players have trained hard, they are definitely prepared said Coach Arnold Oglayon of the University of Baguio and Baguio Defenders Taekwondo Gym with support from UFC Coach Melvin Morte, GB Coach Gilbert Balangcar in close coordination with City High SPS Coach Jaime Pundo.

Meantime, in the girls light weight division, Suzzaine Gleen Caslangen trounced over Quezon Province, Cebu City and finally defeating Angel Abbyx Lerio of General Santos City for the gold.

In the girls heavy weight division, hopes for Baguio turned bright for another gold when Brighty Rio Marie Salazar pounded Laguna’s champion Bonna Lyrh Magcalayo in the finals adding the fifth gold in Baguio’s arsenal.

Team Baguio’s Leslie Marie Agyamoc (Fly weight-girls), Phoebi Kate De Guzman and Colleen Heria (Bantam weight-girls), Kaye Portia Duday (Feather weight-girls), Jsa Lyka De los Santos (welter weight-girls), Rencer Shane Lavestre (Welter weight –boys) and Leomar Agyamoc (Bantam weight-boys) all settled for bronze.

Over all, the Taekwondo Jins added 5 golds, 1 silver and 7 bronzes to Baguio’s total of 29-17-23 gold, silver, bronze in different events besting other regions who competed in the Final leg of Batang Pinoy 2011. ***paul rillorta
