DOLE-led team conducts career coaching in Kalinga schools

TABUK CITY, Kalinga, Feb. 22(PIA) – A team from the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) , the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), and Guidance Councilors of Schools in the province is rounding schools to conduct career guidance to third and fourth year high school students.
Marcial Luminang of DOLE-Kalinga said the team will cover all secondary schools in the province this month until March. He said third year high school students are targeted this time to give them longer period to prepare and decide on the kind of career they want to pursue in the future.
“We will focus on the demands in the job market utilizing the result of the survey conducted by JOBSFIT project of DOLE that identified the key employment generators (KEGs) so that students will be guided on what course to take,” Luminang said.
In their projection up to 2020, there are about 108 identified hard-to-fill are in demand occupations in the KEGs. “The data were cross-checked with the full reports from the results of the DOLE-led survey on occupational shortages and surpluses and output of the presidential task force on education,” Luminang explained.
He said the KEGs in the country are in the areas of agri-business; cyber services; health and wellness; hotel, restaurant and tourism; construction; banking and finance; manufacturing; ownership dwelling and real estate; transport and logistics; wholesale and retail trade; and overseas employment.
“There are also emerging industries that can absorb job seekers in the areas of renewable energy; power and utilities; diversified farming and fishing; and creative industries,” Luminang said. (PAB/PIA-CAR/Kalinga)
