BANGUED, Abra, Feb. 20 (PIA) -- Thirty patients were operated on various cases by Abrenian surgeons based in the United States of America who came home for a three-day surgical mission on February 13 – 15, 2012 at the Abra Provincial Hospital (APH) in coordination with the Abra Provincial Health Office.

“All for the love of Abra and in response to the invitation of Governor and Mrs. Eustaquio P. Bersamin”, Dr. Alex Bobila said when asked by the local media why they brought their team of medical specialists and nurses in this surgical mission.

A total of 30 patients were operated on with various cases like thyroidectomy (goiter), stones of the gall bladder; hernia; tumor of the prostate; kidney stones; and four cases of pediatric surgery.

The medical doctors of the APH conducted the initial screening, admission and work-up of the patients were screened earlier to facilitate the surgical activities since the surgical mission was limited only to three days.

Dr. Bobila, who brought along with him his laproscopic, an apparatus for the operation of the stones of the gall bladder, led the surgical team who conducted the surgical operations with the assistance of volunteer doctors and nurses from University of the East – Ramon Magsaysay (UERM) Foundation in Manila.

Free medicines were likewise given to the patients who were operated on and the follow-up is handled by the doctors of the APH.

This surgical mission was pre-arranged last year by Ruby Bersamin, the first lady of the province, with Dr. Felicidad Quines, president of the UERM Foundation in the North East Coast of the US based in New York.

The same team is expected to come over again next year.(MTBB-PIA CAR,Abra)
