MANILA, August 17 (PIA) -- The Department of Labor & Employment unveiled strategies which will provide young people a smooth and viable support system as they move from education to employment.
Labor & Employment Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz said in a news release posted on the agency’s website that it will serve as a catalyst for dialogue between youth leaders, business, workers, government partners, and other organizations as they work together for the welfare of the working class young people.
Baldoz presented the strategies contained in the Youth Employment and Migration (YEM) Strategy Framework to President Benigno Aquino III during the celebration of the International Youth Day last Friday at the SMC Convention Center at the Mall of Asia.
According to Baldoz, the seven-point strategy are as follows: promote employment-rich opportunities; realize responsive education, training, and career coaching modalities; improve labor market information systems; strengthen worker’s rights awareness and social protection initiatives; harness migration gains and minimize its risks; provide meaningful voice and representation venues; and promote cultural and heritage appreciation.
The YEM strategies take into consideration the youth’s perspective on three key issues or themes: economic and social inclusion; rights and social protection; and dialogue and diversity.
“We propose the seven-point strategy to be fleshed out and given substance in the National Action Plan on Youth Employment and Migration,” said Baldoz.
With the theme “Kahit kailan, Marangal na Trabaho para sa Kabataan Matatagpuan,” the YEM strategies aim to increase the participation and improve access to employment opportunities, promote worker’s rights awareness and provide responsive social protection, and provide avenues for presentation and inter-cultural dialogue.
The DOLE proposes the creation of a network board to manage the implementation of the strategies.
The network board will have as members donor institutions, foundations, academic institutions, non-government organizations, and entities with a stake in the specific themes or issues of the framework.
The chairman of the board may be selected from among the primary government agencies with youth oriented mandates. (DOLE/RJB/SDL/PIA-NCR)
