TABUK CITY, Kalinga, Feb. 22(PIA)-- The seven municipal local government units (LGUs) in the province and this city have pledged an initial of 630 jobs under the Special Program for the Employment of Students (SPES) while the provincial government committed its cash counterpart of P300,000.00 for still undetermined number of job slots.
Initial pledges submitted to the Department of Labor and Employment provincial office here are from: Balbalan – 32; Pinukpuk – 23; Tanudan – 200; Pasil – 34; Lubuagan – 110; Rizal – 46; Tabuk – 150; Tinglayan – 35. Work duration will be 20 days to a maximum of 52 days.
DOLE Provincial Officer Avelina Manganip also informed that the C+ACT Computer school pledged to hire 30 students to work for 30 days.
Manganip said they have also coordinated with private establishments to participate in the SPES to help students find jobs during the summer to earn for their school needs. 'We are urging private establishments, national government agencies and individual employers to participate and avail of this program,” she said.
Manganip explained that the 60-40 sharing scheme still applies with the employer providing 60% of wages and DOLE 40%. “The Department of Budget and Management (DBM) increased the SPES rate,” she informed. However, the adoption of wage increase will be decided by the employer, she added.
“But definitely DOLE will effect the increase if their employer-counterpart also applies the new rate. If employers stick to the old rate, we will also follow,” Manganip said.
“But employers have to issue a certification as to their incapacity to effect the new rate,” she said adding they still urge LGUs and private employers to adopt the new rate in order for student-workers to receive bigger benefits. (JDP/PAB-PIA CAR,Kalinga)
