TABUK, Kalinga,Feb. 22(PIA)-- The festive mood of people in this year’s Ullalim agro-industrial and skills fair contributed to the P1,940,271 in sales despite the relatively unfavorable weather.
The sales this time exceeded last year’s P1,728,271.
According to Benita Mangadap of theDepartment of Trade and Industry (DTI) , the figure would have been higher had the municipalities reported their sales from agricultural products.
Organizers from the DTI provincial office attribute the huge sales to the early opening of the fair last February 9- while the Cordillera Regional Athletic Association (CARAA) meet hosted by the province was ongoing.
Benita Mangadap said the visit of the 6,000 -strong CARAA delegates to the province brought ready market to the fair. The CARAA took place here Feb. 7-11.
Organizers noticed wider participation of exhibitors this year including guest traders from Benguet, Ifugao, Mt. Province, Quirino and Apayao providing a larger variety of display.
Aside from locally crafted products from the lines of décor, souvenir, fashion, home needs, and ornamentals, other organic farm produce added delight to buyers.
DTI organizes the annual activity that has become part of the Ullalim festival, which highlights the celebration of the province’s founding anniversary on February 14. (JDP/LL-PIA CAR,Kalinga)
