LAGAWE, Ifugao, Feb. 22 (PIA) - - The Provincial Nutrition Council (PNC) is set to conduct the provincial search for Green Banner Award (GBA) starting next month.

Corazon Dawong, Provincial Nutrition Program Coordinator (PNPC), said members of the PNC technical working group will be going to the different towns for the municipal evaluation of local program initiatives (MELPI) for 2011.

The MELPI evaluation is conducted every year to evaluate the nutrition programs being implemented in the different municipalities to address the nutrition needs of the people particularly pre-schoolers and school children. Dawong explained that that through the MELPI, the different municipalities will be given technical assistance for the improvement of nutrition program implementation in their respective localities.

The MELPI evaluation is also in preparation for the Consistent Regional Outstanding Winner in Nutrition (CROWN) award first year maintenance evaluation on May this year.

“The province should be prepared for the CROWN evaluation to be conducted on May by the National Nutrition Council (NNC) technical working group,” Dawong said.

Ifugao won the CROWN award for year 2010 after winning for three consecutive years the Outstanding Province implementing nutrition programs in the region or the Green Banner Award (GBA).

The CROWN is the second highest award to be conferred to a province for exemplary performance in the implementation of nutrition programs that cater to the nutrition needs of the people. (JDP/MBL- PIA CAR, Ifugao)
