TABUK, Kalinga, Feb. 22(PIA) -- Eyed to uplift the income generation capability of a grass root community here, the Department of Agriculture (DA) provided a coffee processing equipment to the Balawag Multi-purpose Cooperative (BMPC).

The equipment assistance worth P150,000 consists of roaster, grinder, weighing scale and packaging unit specified by the proponents for their business.

Awarded as grant, the project funded from DA’s 2011 livelihood assistance program is intended for low-income beneficiaries.

Under this program, proponents provide a counterpart, and in the case of BMPC, the 17 coffee farmers donated a lot and building.

The farmers earlier started a small coffee processing business and became producers of Kalinga’s Best Pure Ground Coffee which is now being sold in the market.

BMPC members see the processing equipment as big help to their small enterprise as they expect higher production output. From their crude roasting system, the group sees quality of their ground coffee with the new equipment.

They believe with higher production and better product quality, they would achieve more income . The group even plans to acquire higher-level equipment for future business expansion.(JDP/LL- PIA CAR,Kalinga)
