Bangued holds Miki festival 2012

BANGUED, Abra, Feb. 22 (PIA) -- “We reminisce, we serve, we lead” . This is the theme of the ongoing Bangued town fiesta highlighted by the “Miki Festival” that showcases ‘miki’, the town's indigenous noodles that had survived the times.

The Miki Festival, now on its second year, serves as a venue to promote the livelihood of the people by showcasing the food industry particularly those in the local noodle business. Everywhere in Bangued, be it in the town proper or even in the remote barangays, the miki industry is never taken for granted for it is a fact that all those involved in the miki industry have improved their economic conditions.

The “Food Trip sa Plaza” specifically showcases the miki industry through the miki booths in the Bangued Town Plaza.

To entertain the residents and visitors alike, various activities have been lined up. There is the Ragragsak, Sonata ken Linglingay (RSL) Singing Contest that started last January 27, 2012 and the succeeding Fridays of the month of February. This is the amateur and localized version of the Star Power to discover the hidden talents of the children and youth of Bangued. The RSL Grand Finals will be held at the Bangued Town Plaza in the evening of February 22, 2012.

The Youth Day on February 21 featured the street dancing and cheering competitions participated in by the youth groups coming from the neighboring provinces and cities, the championship games for the basketball and volleyball and a beauty pageant dubbed as “Balasang ti Bangued” where local beauties vied for the title.

The Bike Cross, a Mountain Bike Cross-Boundary Race was conducted on Sunday while the motocross will be held at Emerald Hills in Zone 7.
All sectors are given recognition and participation in the festivities. The top 100 taxpayers of Bangued were given a testimonial dinner and recognition rites as a form of thanksgiving for their continued support to the local government unit (LGU) by honestly paying their taxes.

The “Gunglo ti Inna”, an association of mothers in the municipality are given a day to celebrate during the festival as they parade around the town proper in their colorful Filipiniana attires. They also have games and raffle bonanza.

The “Aldaw ti Bangued” on February 23, 2012 will be the grand parade for all government and non-government offices including and all other sectors.
The barangay night will treat the general public to a celebrity show. The following day will be devoted to the balikbayans and the plaza will be theirs all night for the grand ballroom dancing. The festival will culminate with the Ms. Gay Got Talent, a beauty contest for the gays. (MTBB/PIA-Abra)
