BAGUIO CITY – A 60-day experimental scheme for La Trinidad, where the odd-even scheme stays while the number coding is lifted, was granted by the city council though it takes effect only after final approval of the resolution from the mayor.
This was the result of the meeting done last week during the council session with the appearance of the jeepney association presidents.
Mr. Miguel Luma-ang of the jeepney associations from Benguet informed the council members that the presently implemented double number coding scheme deems the PUJs four days of rest per week. The odd-even scheme would give them an additional day to traverse their routes, it was learned.
La Trinidad jeepneys using Magsaysay avenue are thus allowed to load and unload at the Rabbit sinkhole, others with parking lot at the Central Business Business District may do so.
Jeepney lines with less than 10 units entering Baguio City are also exempt from the coding scheme; other outside lines may be imposed to use the 1-2 scheme, considering that there may be uneven numbers of units to service the community.
Other Benguet jeepneys; Atok, Kapangan, Kibungan and Tublay jeepneys on a one-day one-trip may also be exempt from the number coding scheme, as with Sablan: Amsalsal, Banengbeng, Bolway, Bagong and Bineng. This was a subject of an appeal as the units are to enter the CBD, stay in their parking area at the Dangwa Tranco Station until they are ready to leave.
The presence of colorum jeepney units adding to the traffic problems in Magsaysay have also been the subject of the meeting, with Police Officer Engelbert Soriano in attendance during the session.
The Bokawkan trunkline, up to now is still closed to La Trinidad jeepneys pending agreement as to the correct number of jeepney associations to traverse the route. – juliegfianza
