BAGUIO CITY – The Commission on Filipino Overseas (COF) headed by Executive Director Jose Maria Palabrica shall be conducting its annual community education program on migration in the Provinces of Ifugao and Benguet, including Baguio City from March 6 to 12.
This was the content of Palabrica’s letter to Mayor Reinaldo Bautista, Jr., as he confirmed several activities for Baguio.
The inter-agency information campaign, Palabrica stated in his letter, "seeks to assist prospective migrants in making informed decisions regarding settlement abroad, and generate community involvement in migration concerns."
"Public awareness on various issues concerning migration, intermarriage and existing government policies and programs directed against illegal recruitment, documentation fraud, and human trafficking, among others," shall be the focus of the said information campaign.
Invited as participants for the symposium "Pulong-pulong" includes Sanggunian members, Sannguniang Kabataan and Barangay officials, local civil registrars, marriage counselors, public employment service officers, municipal employees, local government organization representatives and potential migrants.
Nurse migration and competitiveness shall also be focused on during the symposium.
The information campaign includes public assemblies, radio interviews and interaction with the community as ways to reach out to the public, Palabrica stated in his letter.
Activities for Palabrica in Baguio shall be a "Pulong-pulong" with local officials and prospective migrants of Baguio on March 9 at 10 AM to 12 Noon; Symposium at Saint Louis University College of Nursing at 2 to 4 PM; and interview at Radyo ng Bayan Baguio, 5-6 PM.
On March 10, Palabrica shall meet with Philippine National Police Baguio Office, on anti-human trafficking from 8-9:30 AM; Symposium with College of Nursing, University of the Cordilleras, 10 -12 Noon; Symposium at the University of Baguio College of Nursing, 2 to 4PM; interview at Bombo Radyo Baguio, 5 -6 PM.
On March 11, another symposium shall be at the University of Baguio from 9-11AM; meeting with OFW families and migrant NGOs 1-3 PM; Seminar for pastoral workers and other lay persons on migration and intermarriage at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Cathedral, 3:30 -5:30 PM; and an interview at Super Radyo Baguio, 6:30 to 7:30 PM.
From here, the COF shall proceed to Mankayan, Benguet for the next leg of their information campaign. –juliegfianza
