BAGUIO CITY – The city council last Monday approved the proposed resolution of Councilor Betty Lourdes Tabanda seeking the establishment of a "distinct and separate" city district office of the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) for the city.
Tabanda, in a proposed resolution, said the city, being a highly urbanized city in the region serving as the center of trade, commerce and governance of the Cordillera Region, should have a separate TESDA office.
"The TESDA-CAR Regional Office is located at Loakan Road that caters to the needs of the region, but the concerns of the City are addressed at the TESDA Benguet Provincial Office located at La Trinidad, Benguet," Tabanda observed.
"Because of the uniqueness of Baguio City in terms of urban development, social strata, economic prospects and employment, there must be created a separate office that shall give attention to its peculiar needs," the alderwoman said.
She added that the separate office will enable TESDA to focus on the identification and formulation of programs that are viable in the area.
Moreover, this is consistent with the thrust of the national government to establish national government agencies in the locality where its services can be readily accessed.
In her measure, Tabanda sought to urge the TESDA to create a TESDA Baguio City District Office through the assistance of Rep. Mauricio Domogan. – aileen p. refuerzo
